What We Believe

United Methodists emphasize the undeserved, unmerited, and loving action of God—known as grace.

We believe this love draws us toward God even before we are aware of it. We believe that, once converted, we continue to grow in the life of Christ, and that, by the power of God, we can be made holy for love and good works. It is our mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, is said to have had three “general rules” for Methodists.

1) Do no harm.

2) Do all the good you can.

3) Attend to the ordinances of God.

(These are things such as public worship, small group participation,
the Lord’s Supper,
family and private prayer, Bible reading, and fasting, for example.)

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day He rose from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit;
the holy catholic church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
