We are in ministry with children and their families as we worship, study, play, serve and grow in our understanding of what it means to be a child of God.

Wesley provides weekly and annual programs for children of all ages through fifth grade. It is important to teach children about God, but even more important to inspire them to know God. We strive to help them come to know God personally through Jesus Christ, to reach out to others through service opportunities, and to make the Bible a part of their everyday lives.

All staff and volunteers who work with children and youth are subject to screening and are in compliance with Wesley Monumental’s Safe Sanctuaries Policy.

Our church nursery is a loving and nurturing place for our youngest children.  We have several classrooms to divide children by age, and admittance to the nursery area is strictly monitored.  Be sure to visit our Nursery page to find out more.

Eli's Place

Eli’s Place is the Early Learning Center of Wesley Monumental.  The philosophy of Eli’s Place is to provide a nurturing and enriching learning environment based on child development principles that will address the needs of the whole child.  Eli’s Place offers a weekday school-year program and a summer camp program.  To find out more, visit our Eli’s Place pages.

Children's Choirs

Wesley Monumental has three choirs divided by ages which allow children an opportunity to learn how to offer their best praise.  Our Junior Chorister group is for children in grades 2 through 5, our Novice Choristers are in kindergarten through grade 1, and our Joyful Noise Choir consists of children age 3 through Pre-K.  Be sure to visit our Children’s & Youth Choirs page for more information.

Sunday School

Kindergarten & 1st Grade (Room 202) & 2nd & 3rd Grade (Room 203)

This year we will study the lives of God’s people in the Old Testament who lived close to God and are great examples of faith.  We will use a multi-sensory approach to engage the children and allow them to see, feel, hear, and retell the stories of Abraham, Sarah, Jacob, Joseph, and many others.  Our goal is to extend and deepen the children’s understanding of the relationship between God and his people in Old Testament times.

4th and 5th Grade Mission Events

Periodically, our 4th and 5th graders participate in a mission event.  Past events have included making cookies for shut-ins, assembling health kits for UMCOR, gathering socks for the homeless, and making dog biscuits for shelter animals.  Watch the bulletin or the Monumental Messenger for dates and times for these events.

“Confirmation” is the time when a young person makes a profession of faith, takes the vows of membership for him or herself and takes the responsibility of being a full participant in the life of the church.  Confirmation classes are held once a year in the spring and are open to all youth grades 6-12 whether they have already been baptized or not.  Once students complete their classes (including an annual trip to Lake Junaluska), they each decide whether or not they are ready to be confirmed. This decision is a reflection of the witness of family members, Sunday School teachers, youth leaders, church members, and above all the Holy Spirit sowing the love of Christ and faith into the hearts of these students. Confirmation Sunday is usually held in May during church services.

Infant Recognition Sunday

Every Mother’s Day, all of the infants who have been born into our congregation over the previous year (whether their parents are church members or regular attendees) are recognized in that day’s church services.  Infants receive a special age-appropriate book, and pictures are taken of the baby with his or her family at a special reception preceding the 11:00 service.

Vacation Bible School

No summer would be complete without Vacation Bible School!  Our church is so blessed to have the Wesley Gardens Retreat Center on Moon River, a beautiful multi-acre site on which we can hold VBS. Children ages 3 through 5th grade are invited to join the fun. Registration is open to church members first, then after a given time, we open any remaining spots to non-members.  Be sure to register early, because we fill up fast, with the number of attendees topping 100!
