INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK
Interfaith Hospitality Network opens the doors of local churches to house families who need a place to sleep while parents look for employment or go through job training. The ultimate goal is to help these families get back on their feet, and IHN has an impressive record in this regard.
Wesley Monumental will be hosting Interfaith Hospitality Network from Sunday September 18 to Sunday, September 25. We are looking for people who would be willing either to provide an evening meal for our guests or to spend one night during that week here at the church. If you would like to participate in this powerful witness of hospitality and love for people in need, please contact Alex Tracy.
operation christmas child
The Asbury Class is heading up this year’s shoe box drive for Operation Christmas Child. Shoe boxes full of small gifts are given to children all over the world through this special Samaritan’s Purse ministry. If you’d like to pack a box, all of the details and labels are on the second floor education building bulletin board. If you do not wish to pack a box but would like to sponsor a box you may sponsor a box by making a $20 donation by writing a check to Wesley Monumental UMC and marking it “Operation Christmas Child.” Drop your check in the offering plate or at the church office. Our goal is 200 boxes this year! Be sure to stop by the bulletin board each week and see how we’re progressing. The deadline for monetary donations is October 30, and the deadline for boxes is November 6th. Please bring boxes to the library.
ONE MEAL ONE DAY
Daily 143 million children worldwide don't get enough to eat. That's a big problem. It needs a big solution. Right? But what if that big solution came in a small package? One Meal One Day is a way for you to show that solution to students in your church and community. This annual event brings together thousands of students, as they skip a meal and give the money they would have spent to help feed hungry children.
The Lost & Found Youth Group of Wesley Monumental invites you to join them on November 9, 2011 to skip a meal and donate the money you would have spent to hungry children. Their goal is to raise $200. If you’d like more information about One Meal One Day, visit http://onemealoneday.com
SOUPER BOWL OF CARING
Last year more than 260,000 young people across the nation worked together in the weeks before and on the Sunday of the Super Bowl football game to fight hunger and poverty in their local communities. They collected $10 million in dollars and food for local hunger-relief charities. They gave 100% of their donation directly to the local charity of their choice, then reported it to Souper Bowl of Caring to be included in the national total. This year's goal is $11 million collected for hunger-relief charities in local communities.
The Lost & Found Youth Group of Wesley Monumental will once again be participating in the Souper Bowl of Caring. Look for youth members at church exits on Sunday, February 5, 2012 and give them your donations of money and/or canned goods. Our youth group’s personal goal is to collect $1,000 and 500 cans of food.
