These are incredibly rich days for our faith family!  By the power of the Holy Spirit and your enthusiasm, the good news  about the work of Jesus Christ in our midst spreading throughout Savannah, Chatham County and beyond.   People are being made new; families and individuals are experiencing God’s grace in amazing ways and this church is growing in numbers and in faith.

Now we are leaning into the next phase of our Master Plan for ministry and facilities by proposing to renovate the entire ground floor of our sanctuary building, thus to strengthen our ministry with children and adults.  The theme of our capital campaign - Take 2010 – creatively builds on our recent movie experience here at Wesley Monumental while reminding us that you and I find ourselves in God’s spotlight these days!  It is our time to participate in God’s acts of salvation through our Calhoun Square congregation.

Your participation in Take 2010 is crucial!  There are no understudies in this congregation.  Every person has a role to play in order that the redeeming, transforming love of Jesus Christ might be made further known.  Please think and pray about the sacrificial gift you will make/pledge to match the lofty vision God has given this great congregation.

Questions & Answers about our Capital Campaign
What is the next step in our Master Plan?
The next step in our master plan involves a complete remodeling of the ground floor of our church building:
- Moving all children 1st grade and younger to ground floor, creating a safe, completely modern nursery/toddler zone.
- Doubling the size of nursery and toddler space (by using our former offices)
- Adding new handicap accessible restrooms (in present location of stage)
- Modernizing and restoring fellowship hall
- Enlarging fellowship hall seating capacity by 50%
- Creating flexible space to accommodate children’s Sunday School classrooms
- Creating flexible space for senior adult classroom/meeting space/bridal parlor
- Enlarging entrance/welcoming space on both Wayne and Gordon Street, including entrance awnings
- Remodeling kitchen
- Installing latest communications technology in fellowship hall and children’s areas.
- Updating HVAC and sprinkler systems.

How much will this renovation cost?
The contractor’s projected estimate for this project is $1.8 - $2 million, including a 10% contingency fee.

How will we raise the funds for this renovation?
We will conduct a Capital Campaign with the movie theme “Take 2010”.  The active phase of the campaign will run February 21 – March 21, 2010.

What will we do if we surpass our financial goal?
Funds raised/pledged in excess of the ground floor renovation will be earmarked for Phase III (Completion of Espy House).

When will we begin renovation?
This could happen as early as Spring 2010.  As soon as we have successful Take 2010 results our Administrative Board will give final approval to the project. Construction can only begin once we have raised sufficient funds to cover the construction loan.  Estimates are for a Spring groundbreaking.

How long will the renovation last?
From start to finish, the project should last one year.
How much should I/We give?
King David demonstrated his understanding of sacrifice in 2 Samuel 24:24 when he said, “I will not offer as a sacrifice to God that which costs me nothing.”  Paul reminds us that “God loves a cheerful (actually translates “hilarious”) giver.” Sacrificial giving challenges us to reassess our spending and lifestyle, to readjust our priorities and to move to a level above and beyond our regular church giving.  Sacrificial giving costs the giver something.

Can assets other than cash be contributed?
Yes.  Many times, major gifts in the form of investment securities, real estate or other assets are committed in a campaign like ours.  You may benefit from favorable tax treatment of the contribution of assets.  Kent Burklow can provide information about this option.  Consult your tax consultant regarding your specific situation.

When will gifts be received?
The campaign officially begins Sunday, February 21st and continues until Sunday, March 21st.  With prayerful consideration you and your family are asked to make a God-directed commitment on March 21st for a period of 36 months. These gifts are over and above giving to the regular ministry and mission budget of the church.

What else can I do to help?
Pray that we will be found faithful by God to His call on our lives.  Pray that God will use Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church to expand His ministry.  Pray that everything we do in Take 2010 will be consistent with God’s will for our lives, our church, and our community. When making an estimate of giving, have faith that God will direct and provide. Prayerfully seek to discern how God has blessed you and how He intends these blessings to be used. Catch the vision, become involved, be committed to God’s work and together we will expand God’s ministry.

Who is leading our campaign?

We have hired Mr. Kent Burklow of the Generis Corporation.  Kent is a United Methodist layperson who has worked with hundreds of UM churches in capital campaigns.  An executive committee of Wesley members is working alongside Kent Burklow.  Karen Pannell is our Executive Director, Kathy Singletary is our Campaign Manager, and Jim Turner is our Leadership Director.   Five chairpersons and 45 other church members make up the Steering Committee.
