I can’t help being grateful to God for the blessing upon blessing that has characterized the year 2010 for the Hinshaw family. There were festive, celebratory milestones for every member of our family:In February our son Jeremy and Brandi Morris were married in Macon and I was privileged to officiate at the ceremony. We are all still celebrating! In May our daughter in law Beth graduated from Georgia State with a Master’s Degree in School Counseling. In June Bonnie retired from the school system, having spent much of the past 38 years in full or part time teaching. Her retirement has brought both of us great joy. In July our son Jess and his wife Beth moved to Daegu, South Korea, (a city of 3 million people) to teach English for a year. Yes, we are concerned about instability in that part of the world, but Jess and Beth are very happy and we keep in contact via Skype. In August Bonnie and I spent an entire month in Rome, accompanied by the gracious, enthusiastic prayers of the Wesley Monumental congregation. Preaching in the English speaking Methodist Church and living on the Tiber River was an unforgettable experience. In December we received word that our son Jacob completed his final class leading to graduation at Macon State College with a degree in Information Technology; this joyful accomplishment was our best Christmas gift of the season. In the midst of this joyful year we recognize that others who we love very deeply have faced serious challenges, some yet unresolved. We stand with you as much as possible in those trials, trusting in the grace of God to lead us through every year and every circumstance, making us more than conquerors through Jesus Christ. We’ll eat some greens, cornbread and black-eye peas tomorrow and move into 2011 in the certainty that God is with us through every joy and challenge. I look forward very much to another year with you, and hope to see you Sunday in worship. Let’s begin the year in the right place! Creede Hinshaw |
