When people join Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church, they pledge to support the church through their prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. Through serving we glorify God, build up the church body and reach out to others.
Below are some current volunteer opportunities we hope you will consider.
Help Buckingham South Assisted Living.
Buckingham South Assisted Living is looking for someone to conduct a weekly New Testament Bible Study for their senior citizens, ideally on Sundays after lunch. Buckingham South is located behind Publix in the Twelve Oaks shopping center. If interested, please contact Alyson Beasley-Spinks, email@example.com or 912-508-2265.
You do not need to be musical!
Beginning September 7, Miss Monica and Mrs. Charli need a couple more volunteers on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. for children’s choir as they are anticipating record numbers of children. You do not need to be musical, we only need you to assist our leaders who are already in place, and love our children who love to sing!! Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
There are openings in the handbell choir for anyone who reads music. Please contact Raymond Patricio at email@example.com or 912-355-5601 for more information.
Need: Global Justice volunteers
The United Methodist Church has openings for Young Adult volunteers to work as Global Justice Volunteers. The program states “Explore the links between faith and social justice as you work with local grassroots organizations…” These projects will be overseas. These are 10 week opportunities during the summer months, all expenses paid and is intended for those 18-30 years old. Training and orientation are provided for all participants. If you are interested, call or email Steve Tisinger. There is more information on the denomination’s website at www.umcmission.org/gjv
Need: new member shepherds, writing notes to visitors, delivering gift sacks to visitors
We have some volunteer opportunities involving visitors and new members. First, we need some shepherds for our next New Member Class. As a shepherd you will stand up with your assigned new member when they join, and you will encourage them to join in the activities of the church by inviting them to join you as you participate. For our visitors, we need people who are willing to write notes and/or to deliver gift sacks to church visitors’ homes.
If interested in any of these opportunities, please contact Nelle Bordeaux.
Need: Church Docents
Our church has an extremely interesting history as it pertains to Savannah, the United States, the world and United Methodism as a whole. Every week some of us have the opportunity to tell that story to people who are visiting our lovely city. Sometimes we get to tell it on Sundays after one of the services, and other times we tell it on Friday mornings between 10:00 a.m. and 12 noon. Serving as a Docent is fun and interesting. You never know who you’re going to meet during those brief encounters, but they are all part of God’s “guest list.” We invite you to volunteer to be a Docent. We welcome men and women, young and senior, single or married.
Please call the church office (232-0191) if interested.
Need: 8:45 Offering Stewards/Greeters/Ushers
We’re looking for “morning” people who just love getting up early and starting the day. The 8:45 Offering Steward/Greeter/Usher volunteer list is just way too short. The members have been serving regularly and do a wonderful job but would welcome a few more members. Why not consider starting your Sunday by attending 8:45 worship and serving as an Offering Steward, a Greeter or an Usher? Contact Daphne or call 232-0191 if you’d like to join this group.
Providing Transportation, as needed
Help is needed in providing transportation for Sunday worship, Wednesday evening events, and other weekday activities as well as to medical treatments and rehab. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Please contact Rev. Carolyn Hale Cubbedge if you are interested in helping with this ministry.
The Monumental Meal Ministry provides meals for families at the time of death, sickness or recuperation. If you like to cook, we would love to add your talents to our team! Please contact Rev. Carolyn Hale Cubbedge if you are interested in helping with this ministry.
