WHAT UNITED METHODISTS BELIEVE

United Methodists share with believers around the world many common tenets of the Christian faith. The Book of Discipline says, “United Methodists share a common heritage with Christians of every age and nation. This heritage is grounded in the apostolic witness to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, which is the source and measure of all valid Christian teachings.” We proudly confess the historic Christian faith in God, who was incarnate in Jesus Christ. We look to Jesus Christ for our salvation, and affirm that God is at work in the world through the Holy Spirit.

As United Methodists, we believe in grace, justification by faith, assurance of our salvation, and sanctification. We believe, while we are saved through grace, that we are called forth by God to good works as evidence of our faith. We are happy to embrace the derisive term given to early Methodists as “do gooders.” Indeed, we seek to do good to others, and thus fulfill the law of love.

We invite all to come grow with us in God’s grace. Our pastors are eager to discuss with anyone questions about the Christian faith and life. Classes on what it means to be a United Methodist are offered twice a year for adults, and Confirmation classes for youth are offered every spring.

We believe you will feel a sense of welcome at Wesley Monument United Methodist Church. We know that it is a place where we can together grow forward in faith and Christian love.

We welcome you to walk with us on your spiritual journey
The following membership vows are made by those who choose to affiliate with the church:

Do you here, in the presence of God and this congregation, renew the solemn promise you made at your baptism?

Do you renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of this world and repent of your sins?

Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves?

Do you confess Jesus Christ as your savior, put your whole trust in his grace and promise to serve him?

Will you be loyal to the United Methodist Church and uphold it in your prayers, your presence, your gifts, and your service?
